You can change or remove a pharmacy nomination. NHS standards are clear that a nomination should only be set or changed when the patient requests it.

Can I change my nominated pharmacy?

Yes. You remain in control of which dispenser receives your electronic prescriptions. NHS England guidance says a patient can change a nomination at any time and can make that change more than once.

This is useful if you move home, prefer another pharmacy or decide that a delivery service better suits your needs.

Change your pharmacy in the NHS App

The NHS describes the following route for people whose nominated pharmacy can be managed in the NHS App:

  1. Open Prescriptions.
  2. Select Your chosen pharmacy.
  3. Review the pharmacy name and details shown.
  4. Select Change your chosen pharmacy and follow the instructions.

You can also sign in to the NHS website in a browser to manage a local pharmacy choice. The exact options available can vary; the NHS notes that some people may not be able to view or change a pharmacy in the app, including certain dispensing arrangements or cases with more than one chosen provider.

Changing to a prescription delivery pharmacy

For a pharmacy that asks you to register through its own website, use that pharmacy's nomination or registration route. On Post My Prescription, the Nominate us action continues to the linked service for Letter Box Pharmacy. The free NHS prescription delivery guide explains what happens after nomination.

An existing prescription may not move automatically.

If you change your chosen pharmacy after requesting a prescription, the outstanding prescription may still reach the pharmacy that was selected when the request was made.

What about a prescription already requested?

A nomination change is mainly about where prescriptions are sent next. It does not guarantee that an electronic prescription already issued will transfer to the new pharmacy.

If you are unsure where an outstanding prescription was sent, check the prescription information available to you and contact your GP surgery or the pharmacy involved. Avoid submitting a duplicate request simply because the pharmacy name has changed.

How to check your current choice

In the NHS App, open Prescriptions. If a pharmacy is already selected, its name should appear under Your chosen pharmacy. If no pharmacy is selected, you should see an option to choose one.

Before confirming a new choice, check the pharmacy's full name, address and registration details. For Letter Box Pharmacy, this website lists 4 Brick Lane, London E1 6RF and Pharmacy GPhC Number 9012230.
